Date: Sunday 22nd September 2019
Venue: Aiko Izakaya, Berlin, Germany
Whilst in Berlin our restaurant PR agency grabbed some lunch at Aiko Izakaya an authentic Thai/Japanese restaurant.
Deep fried squid
Selection of sushi
As you walk in the décor sells the cuisine as it looks as though you have just wondered down a Thai street. We were seated relatively quickly. The menu was extremely varied, to the point that I had to write our order down on my phone to ensure I didn’t lose track of the dishes we wanted to order. We ordered a selection of sushi, some deep-fried squid and tempura prawns.
After waiting for around 10 minutes, the food arrived. The sushi was presented nicely but the squid and tempura prawns were just placed in bowls or on a plate with little finesse. The tempura prawns were cooked well and the bread crumb was golden and crunchy making them extremely tasty. The deep-fried squid wasn’t pleasant, it was very tough and exceedingly salty which didn’t make for a nice tasting dish.
The sushi dish was fresh and tasty and the variety provided to us was incredible. I genuinely believe if you were craving aparticulartype ofSushi, there was no doubt they would have served it.
Overall, we had a good experience at Aiko Izakaya, the service could have been better as once our food arrived; we didn’t see our server again. The food was nice and perfect for a quick pit stop lunch but definitely not the best sushi we have tried. The venue’s décor was fantastic and I would revisit the location for a quick lunch if needed.
Three words to describe this meal– Authentic, average, great-décor
Would you recommend to a friend– I would recommend this restaurant for the décorand atmosphere, the food wasn’t perfect and the service was ok, but I can’t deny we left feeling full and satisfied.
